Dear Little Shelter Friends and Supporters:

Please join us in celebrating Maryann Chernovsky. After almost 37 years of dedicated service as President of Little Shelter Animal Rescue, Maryann Chernovsky will assume the position of President Emeritus.

President Emeritus/Immediate Past President is a designated role that honors Maryann’s long-standing dedication and leadership. In this capacity, she will provide continuity and continue to support our mission. She will remain informed of all the success her leadership has helped shape, as we celebrate her eternal legacy.

Under Maryann’s direction, Little Shelter has saved countless lives and achieved remarkable milestones, including:

• Developing several programs to give back to the community. These programs include Animal Soup Kitchen, Bark for Books Reading Program, and TNR (to spay and neuter feral cats).

• Creating a sanctuary in upstate New York for overlooked dogs facing medical or behavioral challenges.

• Expanding rescue efforts from local to global reaches.

• She was awarded Women of Distinction 2007.

• She was awarded Fortune 52 Extraordinary Woman 2008.

• Little Shelter was awarded The Points of Light Award, President George Bush 1991.

"The board of directors is deeply grateful for Maryann’s visionary leadership," said David Ceely. "By becoming President Emeritus, she will ensure the organization retains consistency from her shared wisdom and experience while supporting the next chapter of its growth."

 

Maryann has always been immensely proud of her work with the organization and what she has accomplished as the steward of Suffolk County’s first Humane Society, making it a leader in the field of animal rescue.

In animal rescue most organizations are either a rescue organization or a sanctuary. Maryann’s innovative thinking made Little Shelter one of the only organizations in America that is both.

 

David Ceely who has learned from and worked with Maryann for 24 years will assume the role of President of Little Shelter.
